METHOD is a content publisher. We produce interviews, films and dissections about how creative work gets made. We do not run our own servers for accounts or payments: those are provided by independent companies, as explained in section 2.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information is collected when you visit methodstud.io, subscribe to our newsletter, become a member or interact with us on social media, who handles it and what we do with it. By using our website, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our website.

  1. Information we collect

Information you give us: your name and email address when you create an account or subscribe; billing details when you buy a membership; and anything you send us by email, through forms or in direct messages.

Payment information: payments are processed directly by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and are never received or stored by METHOD.

Information collected automatically: your device and browser type, the pages you visit, how you reached our website (for example, the link or ad you clicked) and your approximate location based on your IP address. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Information from social media: when you interact with our Instagram account, for example by commenting or sending us a message, we receive your username and the content of that interaction.

  1. Who handles your data

Accounts and memberships: when you create an account or buy a membership, you do so through Outseta, an independent company that METHOD hires to provide accounts, billing and member email. Your account information is stored and processed on Outseta's systems, under Outseta's own security measures, terms and privacy policy, which you accept when you create an account.

Payments: payments are processed by Stripe, an independent payment company. Your payment details are handled under Stripe's own terms and privacy policy, which you accept when you pay.

Newsletter: our newsletter is sent through Substack, under Substack's own terms and privacy policy, which you accept when you subscribe.

Each of these companies is responsible for the security of the systems it runs. To the fullest extent permitted by law, METHOD is not responsible for their practices, acts, omissions or security incidents. Their policies are available on their websites, and we encourage you to read them.

  1. How we use your information

To provide your membership: give you access to the archive and manage your membership, payments and refunds.

To communicate with you: send the newsletters and updates you signed up for, answer your messages and send notices about your account. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time, using the link in every email.

To measure and improve: understand how people find and use our website, so we can make it better.

To advertise: measure our ads and show them to people who may be interested, including people who have visited our website or interacted with our Instagram account.

To protect METHOD and comply with the law: prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our terms and meet our legal obligations.

  1. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how the website is used, and the Meta Pixel, to measure and target our ads on Instagram and Facebook. Embedded videos may set cookies from their providers, such as Vimeo. These tools are run by those companies under their own privacy policies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on, and manage your ad preferences in your Meta account settings. Some parts of our website, like logging in, may not work without cookies. We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

  1. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money. Besides the companies in section 2, we use other independent service providers to run METHOD, and they receive information only as needed for their service: Google (analytics), Meta (advertising and Instagram), Vimeo (video), Framer (website hosting), Cloudflare (content delivery) and ManyChat (Instagram messages).

We may also disclose your information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a merger, sale or transfer of our business.

  1. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as long as we need it to provide our services. After that, we keep it only as long as we need it for legal, tax and accounting reasons, or to resolve disputes. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see section 7).

  1. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or limit certain uses of it, including direct marketing. To make a request, email us at legal@methodstud.io. We will answer within 30 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information to perform our contract with you (your membership), with your consent (for example, the newsletter), for our legitimate interests (running, improving and promoting METHOD) and to meet legal obligations. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

  1. Security

Accounts and payments run on Outseta and Stripe, established providers responsible for securing their own systems. We take reasonable measures to protect the information we access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

  1. International transfers

METHOD is based in the United States. Our service providers may process your information in the United States and in other countries, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.

  1. Children

METHOD is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

  1. Links to other websites

Our website links to other websites and services, such as Instagram, Substack and Vimeo. Their privacy practices are their own, and we are not responsible for them.

  1. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are significant, we will also let members know by email.
